Frequently Asked Questions

Can parents and family members come to the campsite?

With the exception of dropping off and picking up their camper, family members are not permitted to come to the campsite.

How do I get in touch with my child?

Campers are not permitted to carry cell phones. If a cell phone is found it will be confiscated without exception. Should an emergency arise, please call the hospital at (305) 662-8360 and specifically ask for Dr. Pefkarou for matters related to camp. Otherwise, we ask that family members do not call their child during camp.

Where will my child sleep?

There are two clubhouses at the campsite: a boy’s clubhouse and a girl’s clubhouse. There are beds and cots for all the campers and volunteers.

Will there be medical care available to my child?

Throughout the camp, there will be Nicklaus Children's Hospital doctors and nurses at the campsite and at every activity.

What should my child pack for the week?

For the summer camp, we have compiled a general packing list of recommended items that your child should have during camp. We also have a daily list to ease your packing as well.

How much will camp cost?

Absolutely nothing! All the expenses for the campsite, food, staff, transportation and activities are all taken care of by generous donors and the camp's sponsor, the United Order True Sisters.

What will my child be eating?

The campsite has a fully functioning kitchen with plenty of provision storage. Whenever we will be at the campsite, we will be making delicious meals for all the campers; though more than half of the time we have arranged to have meals at the sites of the various planned activities. Please know, however, that food and drinks will be available to the campers at any time of day.

Should I give my child money?

The only reason that a child should be given money during the week at camp is to purchase souvenirs from the theme parks.

In what activities will my child participate?

Every day of camp is filled with fun and exciting activities. For a day-to-day rundown of this year's camp activities, please check out the calendar at the bottom of this page.

When and where do I pick up my child?

Family members must pick up their child on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. We ask that family members be on time so that they can be present at the awards ceremony that will last until 11:00 a.m. Please know that under no circumstances can your child be picked up later than 12:00 p.m. or we will have to make arrangements with the Department of Children and Families.
